October 2024

On Sunday, September 29th, I got peed on during the 11:15 service. Of all the pastors to say something like that, I know it is most likely that the children’s pastor would end up saying something along those lines. A child who had never been to our church before was not loving being left alone in the nursery. I picked her up to bring her back to her caregiver, and instantly got a soggy hip.
In light of recent events, did you know God’s people peed their pants?
“Every hand will go limp; every leg will be wet with urine.” Ezekiel 7:17
Many of us today are fortunate enough to not have experienced the wrath of God in the way Ezekiel describes. The people of Judah were in the sixth year of King Zedekiah’s reign while this prophecy was made, and in the King’s ninth year, Nebuchadnezzar attacked, and in the eleventh year, took over. Those who managed to flee ran to the mountains in verse 16, and peed their pants.
What would bring God to the point of inflicting such wrath? What could anger God so much to the point of one of the more violent parts of the scripture? In summary, it was disobedience that led to idolatry.
It can be easy to find ourselves pointing out the disobedience of others, to find ourselves pointing out the obvious idolatry of others. With reflection, it is worth addressing any of our own struggles with disobedience to God’s commandment for our lives, to love, or addressing any idols we may have put before God. We can always be more committed to God.
No matter what, don’t pee your pants. God has grace for you.
