September 2025

Kids this month are learning about how we can respond to God in every season of life with seasonal themed sermons. You are invited to our summer themed reflection time from Psalm 1.
I put on some gentle beach sounds and invited children to spread out around the room and sit, kneel, lay, stand, however they felt comfortable and said the following:
Imagine yourself outside on a warm summer night. The sun is setting and feels warm against your skin, but it isn’t too hot.
You hear seagulls calling, the summer breeze blowing gently, and soft waves crashing against the shore.
There’s a tree near the stream, and ripe, juicy summer fruits are on it. Are they peaches? Cherries? Tangerines?
What words would you use to describe how you are feeling right now?
Some words that come to mind for me are peaceful, relaxed, happy, safe, and calm.
As I imagined this scene, I thought about how the fruit tree has everything it needs to grow and prosper, just like it says in Psalm 1. It’s a beautiful picture of the promises in God’s words.
Talk to God. Take a minute to thank God for whatever season your life is in. It can be about the literal weather outside or about something you’re going through at home or school. As you do, ask God to speak to you and teach you how to spend more time with God.
Now, breathe. Listen to the summer sounds of the ocean waves crashing onto the shore. Let these sounds remind you of what is true and unchanging. God’s words are always in season.
